15 Tips to Keep Your Teeth Healthy

In today’s world, around 80% of the population suffers from oral issues and most of them are young ones. Healthy teeth is an investment in itself and we need to learn to take care of dental hygiene to protect your teeth in the long go. Most of us are aware of the significance of maintaining dental hygiene but not all of us follow it.
Here are some of the tips to keep your teeth healthy and clean:

1. Eat a balanced diet

Make sure that you consume a healthy and balanced diet comprising of essential vitamins, calcium, fluoride, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are crucial for your teeth's health. Opt for meals that are rich in fiber content and chew your food on both sides of your mouth well. Include the right amount of nutrients essential for strong teeth like the ones found in vegetables, grains, oils, meat, and fruits.

2. Use a fluoride toothpaste

Brushing your teeth with a toothpaste containing fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay. which offers resistance to the bacterial acids, fluoride also has antibacterial properties and promotes Remineralization in which the effect of demineralization is reversed.

3. Floss regularly

It is not enough to brush twice a day but you also have to floss regularly in between brushes. The dirt particles trapped between your teeth can cause cavities and decay. This is why it is important to floss along with brushing as it deep cleans food particles from teeth gaps.

4. Increase phosphorus and magnesium intake

The role magnesium and phosphorous play in maintaining the health of your teeth are significant. The ideal source of these minerals is meat. Vegetarians who do not derive these minerals from food sources can take supplements to keep your oral health in check.

5. Drink plenty of water

The role water plays in washing off food particles left in and around the mouth cannot be ignored. Water also neutrals acidity and prevents erosion of tooth enamel. The acid content in teeth can weaken your teeth and causes decay, so it is very important to drink plenty of water. Gargle with water after every meal to speed up the Remineralization process and to get rid of leftover food particles.

6. Quit smoking

Smoking leads to losing your teeth natural color and makes your breath smell bad. It also reduces saliva production that in turn affects your teeth. So quit smoking, avoid your tooth turning yellow, and stay away from a number of health issues.

7. Reduce intake of acidic food

Increasing the intake of acidic food increases the risk of cavity formation and leads to decay of enamel and thereby exposing dentin and allowing bacteria to enter tooth surface. Though you need not avoid acidic foods completely, control your portion.

8. Do not chew non-food objects

Chewing on anything like a pen or biting your nails can affect your enamel and lead to enamel loss and wearing of tooth eventually.

9. Clean your tongue

For most people, dental hygiene is constrained only to teeth and they ignore cleaning tongue. Cleaning your tongue is very important, as the tongue is the area where fungal infections originate. Do not forget to clean your tongue while you brush.

10. Change your toothbrush regularly

How often do you change your toothbrush? At least once in 3 months, you need to change your toothbrush, as it is prone to wear and tear like any other tool.
